Bruce Kent has campaigned for nuclear disarmament and an end to war for over 50 years, as well as human rights, peace, poverty, and many other worthy causes. He’ll be speaking about peace, diversity, and living in harmony with each other.
Bruce will have a stand as well, so if you miss his talk, do go see him at his table!
He will talk from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Live Acts room.
Community Get Together
- Do you run a group or organisation? Would you like to promote it?
- Would you like to make community connections?
- Would you like to find out about what is available in your community?
- Would you like to share your points of view and ideas?
If you are interested in any of the above, please come along to our Community Get Together. The aim is to bring together groups, organisations, and members of the public who are interested in the community, in order to provide an opportunity for the groups to promote what they do.
Groups will be given a 10-minute slot. There are 8 slots (at time of writing!), which are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority will be given to groups and organisations which benefit the community.
Once the groups have finished their talks, there will be an opportunity for everyone to ask questions, make suggestions, share view points, and discuss our community.

Glossopdale Transition Initiative
Glossopdale Transition Initiative is a group exploring ways of adapting to the pressures of climate change, resource depletion, and economic austerity. It is a part of the Transition Network, an international movement operating on the local level.
Whether you’re passionate about local food & textiles, cleaner transport, renewable energy, or alternate economic arrangements, there’s something for everyone. Glossopdale Transition Initiative is looking for more people to join in helping transform Glossopdale into a greener community, capable of facing these challenges.
They will be giving a talk about what Transition is, how you can get involved, and also about its subgroups.
In addition to the main Transition group, there are these sub-groups so far:
Feel free to join in any, all, or none of the subgroups, or even help set up a new one — whatever suits you!

Northern School of Permaculture
“Small Town – Big Picture” – talk by Angus Soutar
The spirit of a small town is generated by local interaction, business activity, and a sense of fairness for all. This spirit grows through communication and connection across all spheres of life: plant and animal, as well as human. Angus will ask whether re-localising is needed for a town to enhance this type of growth. He will also examine whether there is a democracy deficit that raises issues of local control and leadership.
How do townsfolk become empowered to re-stimulate their local economy so that town life may be enjoyed by all the residents?
The Northern School of Permaculture provides training and professional development services to build skills in productive, functional design. We work predominantly at the community level, taking a holistic and ecological approach to design.
Angus Soutar is the Development Director of CommEnt CIC, an independent enterpriser that assists with the running of community projects. He is also the senior teacher with the Northern School of Permaculture.
He will talk from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the Live Acts room. He will also lead a workshop from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm in Workshop Room Two.
PPROM and Tommy’s baby charity
Glossop resident Ciara Curran will give a talk to help raise awareness for PPROM (Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes, when your waters break early) and baby loss. After her own experience with PPROM, she decided to make a difference by empowering women.
Ciara will have a stand as well, so if you miss her talk, do go see her at her table!
She will talk from Noon to 1:00 pm in the Live Acts room.
A journey beyond home, beyond the known…
Between light and darkness, through the medium of shadows and contemporary circus, a journey takes a girl. She escapes home for wilder realms where the howls shake the leaves, but was the map upside down? All that can be certain is that nothing will remain the same, in this curious dream slicked production.
There will also be a workshop in Workshop Room Two from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
I am a street theatre and hula hoop artist. I am mainly self-taught, but have been supported by the circus school of Rio de Janeiro, Mintfest’s Street Artists School, and No Fit State. I am now currently training at Greentop Circus, within the Circus in Performance course, with my placement funded by the Arts Council. I am a founding member of Travelling Light Circus and Cirqanova, and have created various performances for Arcadia Spectacular, Boom Festival, and various other festivals.
With this experience, I am now ready to create my first full scale theatre piece, with complimentary workshops. This was inspired by my year spent in Brazil, a journey which taught me the significance of exploration, curiosity, and compassion, whilst absorbing myself into the circus training and the Portuguese language. Once I returned to the UK, I was selected for an artist development programme, Hot House, and collaborated with Shifting Sands Theatre, where Wandering Shadows was born. Since then, I have been funded by the British Arts Council for this project and am currently undergoing professional development as an emerging performance artist. Thus this piece is currently work-in-progress, and shall be toured around the UK, with slots also in Holland and Sweden. You can follow the journey of Wandering Shadows at my blog.
