Glossop Storytellers
Tales of the Peaks and the Woods – a Storywalk
This storywalk is mainly for adults. We’ll tell a few stories – look forward to folk stories from the Peak District, and perhaps stories about trees and woodland – as we walk to and through Harehills Park. Feel free to bring your own story or poem to tell or read along the way.
We are an informal group which has been meeting for an Evening of Storytelling on a Friday evening in alternate months for a number of years at Partington Theatre Club, encouraging oral storytelling for grownups, but happy to include some reading of poems, stories, and creative writing. To find out more, including our next meeting date, please email John.
For those whose appetite is whetted by this storywalk for more Peak District stories, one of our members has had a collection of these published: Folk Tales of the Peak District. Happy reading!
This will take place from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
You’ll spot Julie’s colourful stall in the grassy area behind the church easily enough: she’ll be selling authentic tie-dyed t-shirts and doing tarot readings. She’s also leading a workshop called Universal praise and Om chant.
You can find Julie on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, or email.
Labyrinth
An activity for all to get involved in. The Labyrinth will enhance appreciation for nature as well as helping you to focus your mind on reflection.
Making Clay Owls
Susan Couch runs pottery classes in schools and is going to show you how to make your own owls out of air-dry clay to paint at home. £2 per child.
You can find her on facebook or send her an email.
Native American Healing Ritual
Involving dance, chanting, and meditation. This ritual comes from Cherokee earth wisdom Teachings passed down the Cherokee Ywahoo family for 27 generations. Dyhanni Ywahoo, who founded and leads Sunray Meditation Society to share these teachings beyond the family. Jill Neves was empowered to pass on teachings in 1991 by a senior member, and will share them with you on the day of the festival.
Sunray Meditation Society is an international spiritual society dedicated to planetary peace. Its purpose is to manifest the Native American ideal of Circle Mind (the thought of all beings as relatives in the field of life), so that we may create a world of harmony upon the Earth and throughout the Family of Life.
This will take place in Workshop Room One from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm and again in Workshop Room One from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
The Furthest Point from the Sea
Singers, poets, comedians, and tellers of pirate tales. They will put on a full day workshop in the grassy area behind the church.
The Unseen World – Microscopic Life
Identify photos of microscopic life
- Where do I live?
- What am I? Am I…?
- A plant?
- Fungi?
- An animal/creature/organism?
This will take place in the grassy area behind the church from 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm.
WALK THE WHEEL was created in October 2012, with an aim to inspire people to take notice of what is around them. It seeks to draw attention to the natural world and our place within it, highlighting the intrinsic connection between all life on the planet. We firmly believe that by continually exploring and experiencing this connection, we can all be inspired to appreciate what we have and improve our health and wellbeing being as a result.
At the Inspire Festival, WALK THE WHEEL wants to inspire YOU to take a new look at the world and share with us what you see! At our stand you’ll find simple arts and crafts and small challenges designed to get you taking notice of your surroundings. Festival goers are also invited to attend a small creative sharing (time to be confirmed), to hear poems and stories that reflect the upcoming seasonal festival – Lammas or Lughnasadh – and perhaps share something themselves!
WALK THE WHEEL’s activity stand will be in the grassy area behind the church.
